[ Read more ... ]EU Commission's education ambitions spell 'failure' for a Europe of knowledge

The European Commission's goal of 40 per cent tertiary education graduates is a problem rather than an ambition, said Ligia Deca, Chairperson of the European Students' Union.
The European Commission has released a Communication to the European Council on a strategy for EU towards 2020. One of the goals is that "at least 40% of the younger generation should have a tertiary degree".
Ligia Deca said: 'Setting benchmarks is good. But if the bar is set as low as this, Europe will not be able to call itself a real knowledge economy by 2020. Having less than 50 per cent higher education graduates among the young generation is a problem rather than an ambition.'

Application for Summer Seminar in Cyprus in two rounds, 8-14 and 15 to 21 March

A new application procedure will be used for the seminar in Cyprus, taking place from 7 to 12 June. The application will be done in two rounds. The first one will be as always, one week, from 8 to 14 March. The people who apply in this first round will get their confirmation on the 15th of March. If there are still places available after the first round, a second application period will immediately follow, from 15 to 21 March. They will get their confirmation on the 22nd. This makes it possible for the early birds to be accepted soon and to arrange their travels soon. Application takes place through http://syfiky.net/. Here the organizers will soon put more information available.

We can announce the official application period for the Annual Conference in Helsinki, taking place from 5 to 11 April 2010. The theme will be 'Integration throughout History', and we expect around 100 students from around Europe to show up. Please promote the conference among your friends and colleagues, and inform them that they can apply from the 8th of February on the official blog of the Conference. On this blog you can find more information, as well as ways to contact the organizers.

Our association was present on Facebook already in the form of a Group, but we now upgraded to a Page. Acknowledging the value of easy communication through Facebook, we hope to bring you news about ISHA more smoothly, and we hope that you can spread the word about ISHA more easy as well. During the 57th Board
Meeting of the European Students' Union in Krakow, Poland, ISHA was running for the status of 'Associate member'. After presentation of our organization, this was granted by the board of ESU. We are looking forward to collaborate closely with ESU, learn a lot from them, and gain a firmer grip on European student issues.
Application Weekend Seminar in Marburg

It is now possible to apply for the Weekend Seminar in Marburg. You can have a look at marburg.isha-international.org for all the information.
The Weekend Seminar will be about Being a Historian and take place in Marburg, Germany, from 28 to 31 January 2010.

Dear ISHA-people,
I am glad to announce that ISHA Vilnius is ready to be swamped with applications for their seminar around New Year. The Seminar will take place from the 28th of December to the 2nd of January, including a great celebration of the New Year! Topic will be 'Manipulation in History'. The participation fee will be 80 euro. More specific information about the seminar will be announced in a few days, together with the registration form. Application will be possible from the first minute of Monday the 26th, untill the last minute of Friday the 30th of October 2009. The participants list will then be announced in the weekend.
This message is meant to give you some time to think about application and persuade others as well. Please use this possibility. More information is available at the weblog of ISHA Vilnius!

Application period for the Utrecht Summer Seminar 2009 has started!

Dear ISHA People,
The Summer is getting near, time for the next ISHA-event after Zagreb. We are busy with organizing the Summer Seminar here in Utrecht and we're sure you'll enjoy it. The theme will be 'Comparative History of Religion', and more information you can find on our blog isha-utrecht.blogspot.com. That will also be the place where you can get your application form, to apply between Monday 18th of May, 0h00 and Sunday 24th of May 23h59. If there are to many applications, we will do restrictions on number of persons per section (Zagreb-style).
The participation fee will be 60 euros, unless some big fund suddenly decides to step out, than we have to raise the price, but to not more than 70 euros. Any news will be posted on the blog.
We are looking forward to your applications, and hope you're looking forward to the second week of July!
